Fulham vs. Birmingham City: Opinions
April 30, 2008 by Zac Hobbs
With Fulham’s cruicial game against Birmingham City only days away let’s look at what’s being said:
“Every player hopes to start every game but if I don’t start it’s not a problem for me, the team and the win is the most important thing. If the coach wants me to start then I start, if the coach wants me to stay on the bench then I stay on the bench, if I start on the bench and then come on and score two goals it is ok also!” - Nice to see a good, positive attitude from Diomansy Kamara (fulhamfc.com)
“I think we can expect a tight and really tough game…It will be a physical game and we have to be prepared for that. Considering our position in the league, our fans have been fantastic and they will play a major part again this weekend.” - Brede Hangeland on the importance of the Fulham faithful (fulhamfc.com)
“Now we give ourselves a chance knowing that a victory over Birmingham on Saturday will send us to Portsmouth in the last game going down to the wire. Two or three matches ago I would have settled for that.” - Fulham boss Roy Hodgson confesses that he thought the club were doomed only a few weeks ago (fulhamfc.com)
“There are two games left and we’re still in it and have a fighting chance…we will have to go out all guns blazing and give it everything we’ve got in the last two games.” - Former Fulham ‘keeper Maik Taylor believes Birmingham can still avoid the drop as long as they set out to attack Fulham(blues.premiumtv.co.uk)
“We said weeks ago there were a few cup finals ahead but the next one is very important…We are due (an away win), and we have done it before, although not as much as we would have liked. We are where we are. We’ve got similar away records to the teams about us.” - Birmingham manager Alex McLeish knows Birmingham need a rare away victory and admits away form has been a problem for most sides at the bottom of the table (fansfc.com)
“A draw against Liverpool wasn’t a bad result but we knew a win would have pulled us out of the relegation places. Unfortunately, it means we are right in there with two games to go and this weekend’s game is even bigger than it already was if that is possible.” - Birmingham defender Stephen Kelly admits that last weeks draw with Liverpool has heaped added pressure on his side (eatsleepsport.com)
“It’s going to be huge, probably one of the biggest games I’ve ever been involved in” - Jimmy Bullard on the huge significance of this weekends fixture (fulhamfc.com)
